I just wrote about 9,500 words of fic in 24 hours.Impressed?
Sponsor!I will be doing a revision pass on this fic--it's too interesting for me not to. And it does need a lot of work due to the speed-writing, and I'm probably going to be adding a whole pack of letters in the eighties and expanding some of the extant ones considerably. I don't quite have in it me to do a full post-mortem on this fic, but,
damn, that was interesting.
I also believe, even though this was my first Blogathon, that epistulary fic is a perfect format for writing something for the same. It provides an overall arc and structure (a lot of what kept me going was anticipation of writing the ending, the last few letters, the last few angst-bombs, because I knew from the start where it was going) while at the same time providing a lot of flexibility (I was able to drop about a decade's worth of material without, I think, too much of a problem). Rambling first-person writing is, for me at least, one of the easiest things to do when sleep-deprived. And I had a particular advantage of the structure, with the initial period of relative civility and sanity, followed by an increasingly speedy plunge into angst and madness, which seems to mirror the general emotional arc of doing Blogathon.
So. I highly recommend this structure!
And, yes, I'm quite proud of myself. I decided I would do it, and I did it, and it was easy and fun!
